What is the Biblical Basis for IGNITE And 40+40?

40 days is a length of time that appears repeatedly in the Bible!
Here are a few references:

  • In the Old Testament, when God destroyed the earth with water, He caused it to rain 40 days and 40 nights (Genesis 7:12).

  • After Moses killed the Egyptian, he fled to Midian, where he spent 40 years in the desert tending flocks (Acts 7:30).

  • Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days and 40 nights (Exodus 24:18).

  • Moses interceded on Israel’s behalf for 40 days and 40 nights (Deuteronomy 9:1825).

  • The Law specified a maximum number of lashes a man could receive for a crime, setting the limit at 40 (Deuteronomy 25:3).

  • The Israelite spies took 40 days to spy out Canaan (Numbers 13:25).

  • The Israelites wandered for 40 years (Deuteronomy 8:2-5).

  • Before Samson’s deliverance, Israel served the Philistines for 40 years (Judges 13:1).

  • Goliath taunted Saul’s army for 40 days before David arrived to slay him (1 Samuel 17:16). When Elijah fled from Jezebel, he traveled 40 days and 40 nights to Mt. Horeb (1 Kings 19:8).

  • Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights to fast, pray and ultimately be tempted by the devil. Jesus displays victory over temptation from the enemy (Matthew 4)!

The IGNITE Program

a 40-day challenge and commitment!

  • o One 40-minute workout per day. This must be dedicated exercise time (not employment or chore-related like lawnmowing, snow shoveling, taking kids to park, etc.). You may break this into two separate 20-minute workouts.

o Choose a nutritional goal and plan and STICK TO IT every day! No deviating. No exceptions.

o No alcohol. No illegal substances. Prescription meds OK, only as prescribed.

    o No pornography.

o Read 5 pages of a faith-based spiritual/personal improvement. No audio books – you must read!

o Read one chapter of the Bible (this can be done via audio if you choose).

o Drink ½ gallon of water per day. No additives to water – must be pure. Adding something like electrolytes, a lemon or orange slice is acceptable.

o If you miss an item or cheat, you need to start over at day one. No excuses.

FAQs

  • The IGNITE program is designed to be a starting place before deciding to begin 40+40, which is more rigorous than IGNITE.

  • *You don’t have to go straight from one stage to the next, but having them as close as possible, or even back-to-back, is recommended so as to not lose focus and momentum.

  • If any daily item is missed then you must restart at day one! Creating a checklist to use each day is highly recommended.

  • Exceptions may be made to daily tasks for spiritual reasons (e.g. communion if it breaks dietary rules, sabbath if it’s something you regularly do, etc.).

  • 40+40 is not recommended if you are pregnant, nursing or have certain health conditions. Consult a physician before beginning.

  • Certainly, discipleship is important, and this habit is a good one to keep. It is just not required for Stage 2. Instead, you are turning your energy and gifts outward at this point, which is what you will see in the additions of Stage 2.

  • We recommend beginning with IGNITE 40.

  • Aside from creating advanced determination and grit, there are many health benefits to this practice. To delve further into the research, check out the Huberman Lab Podcast HERE.
